With it being almost 2021, it is no secret that the COVID-19 virus has affected every aspect of life as we know it. As winter sports start to come around, many questions have risen about how student-athletes will stay safe from the virus during winter sports. One sport that will be affected the most is wrestling.

The PIAA and District 3 officials have come up with a plan for the 2020- 2021 wrestling season that will change the sport. The rules that have been put into place are geared toward making wrestlers have less physical contact.

New rules like no shaking hands before or after the match, no hand raised by the referee, no shaking hands at the end of the dual meet, and not sharing ankle bands with teammates.

Other rules are being put in place for weigh-ins before the dual meets. One new rule being that the teams must be separated and everyone in the locker room must maintain a six foot distance and wear masks at all times.

The season is set to start close to next year and there will be no overnight or individual tournaments. The 2020-2021 wrestling season will be one to remember.
