New to CV: Hospitality and Tourism Management class

The newest class to join Cumberland Valley's roster is the Hospitality and Tourism Management class. This class occurs every day for two periods, and is taught by Mrs. Hayes and Miss Edgerly. There are fifteen students taking the course this year.
Edgerly said, "Hospitality applies to so many facets of people's day to day life. You experience hospitality every time you drive through Chick-fil-a or go to Hershey Park. The service industry is there whenever you need it in hotel form, food and beverage or catering, environment, travel, and resorts. We are here to teach people skills and practical job applications for any industry the students wish to enter."
Along with this course comes weekly field trips to the local Residence inn in Carlisle, and many opportunities to talk to professionals in this industry. The field trips will expand later in the year to all day trips to Allenberry or larger businesses in the industry.
Field trips may be cool and all, but how will this class help people looking to get into the hospitality or tourism industry?
Hayes said, "The end goal is for the students to get a well rounded overview of the hospitality industry to maybe interest them in pursuing more studies in hospitality and ultimately if they decide to do the internship time and complete the test, they have the ability to earn a certification in the hospitality and tourism management program."
Since the class is taught every day for two periods, they are able to get through two years of information in half the time. It also is a two credit class because of the double-period instruction, which is great for Juniors and Seniors so late arrival and or early release are available.
Junior Courtney Staton said, "The class is very fast paced because we have to take a two year course into one year. And so that means we have to learn a whole year of information in just one semester."
Staton also said, "There are a lot of quizzes, and we typically take two to three each day."
Since this new class, they are looking to have more than fifteen students take the course next year. The Hospitality and Tourism Management program is a great option to those looking for a gateway into the world of hospitality.
