The Mid Penn Championship is a prestigious and challenging meet for the swimming and diving
team. Every season the best swimmers and divers in the conference compete against each other at
our pool.

“Hosting the meet definitely gives us an advantage because we are comfortable in our pool and
we know the environment around us better than anyone else,” freshman Rusham Katotch said.

The athletes train hard to prepare for the meet. The team practices at least five days a week, with both morning and evening practices. To get ready for this meet the team made minor adjustments to their practice workouts.

“To prepare for Mid Penns, this last week at practice, we have been tapering. Which means we've been having shorter practices and easier workouts so our bodies aren’t tired and exhausted before the meet,” freshman Mia Pesavento said.

Not only is it an honor for the athletes to compete in this meet, but it is also very exciting.

“I’m excited for the feeling because I think it’s going to very good. I’m also excited to drop a lot of time. A lot of the upperclassmen always say that the feeling that you get at Mid Penns is the best feeling that you will get all season, like as a team because it’s at our own pool, and that’s what we are used to and all of the other teams are here," Pesavento said. "Also it’s supposed to be packed and all the tickets usually sell out so the vibe of the meet will just give us all a ton of adrenaline rush.”

“I am very excited to compete in the meet because the meet is supposed to be very loud and crowded, and everyone always says how it is just a very exciting meet with a huge crowd. Also swimmers get to meet swimmers from other schools and make new friends,” freshman Alina Lyesnykova said.

This year the swim team did very well. The girls placed third overall and the boys placed second overall. With many athletes on the podium, the first place finishes went to the boys 200 freestyle relay, Carolyn Bolden won the 100 freestyle, and Logan Skiles won the men’s 100 butterfly for the second year in a row.
