To celebrate 101 days until Mini-THON 2020, CV Mini-THON held its first ever Stall Day on November 25th and 26th.

“Because we usually do Miles of Coins every two years, this year was an off year,” overall Claire Stoner said. “The other overalls and I decided that instead of not doing anything, we needed to come up with a new event,”.

“After attending a leadership summit in August, we heard about the idea of Stall Day and decided to pursue it,” overall Bruklyn Cooper said.

During Stall Day, students were asked to bring in any spare change they had to participating teachers. With that, the participating teachers were not able to begin their class until they finished counting all the money that students brought in.

In efforts to make Stall Day as successful as possible, the CV Mini-THON overalls reached out to administration to make sure everything would run smoothly.

“First, to make sure sure stall day went smoothly, we had to talk to the administration to get it approved,” Stoner said. “Then we had to make a promo video for the teachers to explain what the event was. After teachers signed up to participate we made sure to keep sending them emails that gave them more detail on how the event was going to work,”.

“So many teachers were open to the idea and some even held competitions between there classes to boost their participation. Finally we had to collect all the change, bag it and take it to the bank to be counted,” overall Grace Brown-Sherer said.

Although participation from teachers was not mandatory, many teachers took the opportunity to support the fight against pediatric cancer.

“We had 34 teachers sign up for stall day, but more teachers randomly decided to participate the day before,” Stoner said.

As a result of the huge amount of participation and support from the Cumberland Valley teachers, administration, and students, Stall Day was a huge success.

“I think it was so successful because it not only gave an incentive to students, but gave an opportunity for teachers to be in charge and involved. They also were able to encourage their students to participate and perhaps get a little competitive. It brought everyone together,” Cooper said.

“We didn’t have many expectations but it did much better than we were expecting, thanks to our amazing staff and students! I definitely think CV Mini-THON should continue Stall day in the future,” Brown-Sherer said.

After CV Mini-THON’s first Stall Day success, the overalls hope to continue to have this same success and support throughout the rest of the year, and for years to come.
