Key club is a club at Cumberland Valley where all students can join and volunteer in the community. Due to COVID-19 this year the club has to do things differently like everything else. The club has found ways that they can help the community while staying safe.

“We are doing both virtual and in-person events. We just helped out at the 5k for Freedom last weekend. We are also doing service projects and donating things like clothes,” Sophomore Megan Conrad said.

The pandemic is causing the Key Club more trouble finding volunteer opportunities. The meetings are no longer in person which is both limiting and opening up opportunities for the club.

“We aren’t having any in- person meetings and there are definitely a lot less opportunities to volunteer in person since many places don’t want to be exposed to the virus. We also now have guest speakers joining our zoom calls to talk about their charities and how they are helping people in need,” Conrad said. “Yesterday we had a student from Harvard named Seth Odayappan talk to us about his tree program that he formed to help stop Climate change.”

COVID- 19 has led to students trying to help with people in need. “We have been donating clothes to those in need especially those who are unemployed due to the pandemic,” Conrad said.

Through this hard time clubs that are involved in mainly in-person activities such as Key Club have found ways to stay involved with the community and have continued to make a positive impact.
