On November 4th, everyone got an extra hour of sleep with the clocks turning back. The reasoning behind it is so we use more daylight and get more out of our day. This all began on January 4, 1974, when President Nixon signed the Daylight Saving Time Energy Act of 1973. But, Daylight Savings was originally proposed by Ben Franklin in 1784.

Daylight Savings is meant to save energy, because people don't use lights as much in the evening. Now, it is dark around 5-6 p.m. when it was getting dark at 9 p.m.

Daylight savings results in a safer living as people are less likely to drive in the dark reducing accidents. Also, it shifts lighter hours to the summer where it can be enjoyed more due to weather. On the other hand, some argue that it takes away from us because people are more likely to be ready and moving after work in the evening, when it's dark, than before work.

Some myths about daylight savings say that the extra daylight makes us happier and healthier. Another myth states it was originally to help farmers, and to benefit businesses.

Personally, I prefer when it's lighter most of the day because it seems to give me more motivation to get things done. The days seem more set in my opinion. Although some argue that it is just a waste and would like to see time stay consistent throughout the whole year.

Most experts believe that after taking everything into account, daylight savings is a good thing for the functionality of human life.
