Junior Shane O’Connell and Senior Joseph Butler pose on Senior Night, September 13

Senior Joseph Butler is one of the fastest cross country runners at CV this year. At the Kutztown National Meet of the Week he placed 10th out over 200, completing the 5k in 16:33.

“To prepare for meets, I get a lot of sleep and eat pasta the night before. I also listen to music,” Butler said.

Butler runs over 30 miles a week in and out of practices to get ready for meets. Outside of school, Butler runs with team captain Jordan Tiday often. “It's more fun to run with other people than running alone,” Butler said.

Besides cross country, Butler is a part of THON, plays basketball, and runs track in the winter and spring. He runs the 800 meter, 1600 meter, and 3200 meter events.

“I try to get my work done as soon as possible. I do that so I am ready to go to practice or meet with no worries about having to do something after,” Butler said.

Butler is not committed to a college yet, but his speed has attracted interest from schools across the country.

“I’m trying to get into a D1 college. I want to go to Michigan I think.”

Butler's fastest time in a cross country race is 16:33, which was achieved at the Kutztown meet Saturday, September 10. His fastest time for the 3200 meter was 9:58, which he ran last spring.

Butler is running at the Carlisle Invitational Saturday, September 24.
