Mrs. Orner has taught heath and PE for 30 years. She will retire this year.

Mrs. Jackie Orner will be ending her teaching career at Cumberland Valley High School after spending the last 30 years as a health teacher, CPR instructor, and volleyball coach for Cumberland Valley. Orner completed her student teaching within the district before taking a job at the high school in early 90s.

“I did my student teaching here at Cumberland Valley and absolutely loved it, and elementary student teaching at Hampden Elementary,” Orner said.

The teaching style has changed significantly during Orner’s time at the school, especially in regard to technology.

Orner said, “Teaching has incorporated a lot more technology over time. I've always loved to connect with students, but I have recently realized how important that really is. The students have to know that you're available and have to want to be in your class and want to learn.”

Orner plans to take advantage of her retirement by pursuing interests that she was unable to previously do because of her time-consuming teaching and coaching role.

“Travel! There are a lot of things I have put on the back burner because, in my 30 years, I have always been a teacher and varsity coach whether it's gymnastics, or Boys Volleyball, or Girls Volleyball. We have recently bought a camper, so now me and my husband can travel more and spend some more time together and with our kids. I think I will always be connected with the sporting aspect of Cumberland Valley though,” Orner said.
