With the Midterm elections finally wrapped up, Democrats took a big win in Pennsylvania, flipping the state House of Representatives and winning the senatorial and governor race. Democrat candidate Josh Shapiro won the race for governor against Republican candidate and state senator Doug Mastriano and Democrat Candidate and Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman beat out the Republican candidate Mehmet Oz in the senatorial race. Fetterman took the seat from retiring GOP senator Pat Toomy, making it the first time both Pennsylvania senators have been democrats in 165 years.

Fetterman has lots of typical democratic beliefs, but also has some uncommon stances for his party. Fetterman believes in taking big money out of Washington and banning congress from trading stocks. This is a part of his plan to “Hold Washington Accountable,” as well as making more products in America, cutting taxes on working people, slash “out of pocket” health care costs and end immoral price gouging. Fetterman also believes more money should be invested into rural communities and invested into Pennsylvania farmers “to take on big Ag”.

Josh Shapiro served in The Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2005-2011 and has served as Attorney General since 2017. As Attorney General, he uncovered sex scandals in the Catholic Church, arrested hundreds of high level drug dealers, and revolutionized Pennsylvanias criminal justice system.

Shapiro and Fetterman both agree on many issues. They both believe that women should have the right to have an abortion, schools should have more funding and Pennsylvania should transition to low carbon energy sources while keeping jobs for the people that work in the fossil fuel industry.
