The Cumberland Valley lacrosse team is less than 50 days away from the season opener against Lower Dauphin. The team is preparing and getting ready to have a great season. Even though the team had lost 15 seniors from last season, the team still holds many skilled players that can replace them. Senior captains Nate Campisi and Christian Gensbigler have high praises on these new starters and talk about what their doing to prepare for the upcoming season.

Senior captain defensemen Nate Campisi talked about what the team has been doing recently.

“We’ve been practicing together and hitting the weight room twice a week. Every weekend we have been playing games up at Spooky Nook in the dome. The defense has also been working on team commuinication so everyone is on the same page,” Campisi said.

Last year their were 6 senior defenders which is a lot of seniors just on one side of the ball. The key losses are “Sam Blacksmith and Connor Fritz,” Campisi said. He said, "Both of those guys were a big part of our defense last year”. Nate believes they have plenty of guys that can fill in their shoes. He said guys like “Mason Wickerham who is starting Long Stick Midfielder, Taylor Makuch who will start at Defensive Middie, and Fisher Makuch who is the starting Goalie this year."

Senior captain Christian Gensbigler talked about how the offense has been putting in the work all offseason. He said, “A lot of guys have been working on stick work outside of practice while getting in some shooting and passing as well."

While with the team is together, they are always trying to work on formations, which that really helps the new guys get acquainted to the offense.

The Cumberland Valley offense is going to be a very young offense this year after losing guys like Aydan Gilbert, Owen McKenzie, and Caden Wescoe who were a big part of the offense last year. Even though they lost a lot of guys on the offense, Gensbigler believes the team has a lot of people coming up that can replace them.

He said, "Guys that will need to step up for the team are Luke Tokarz and Ben Nichols. Luke Tokarz who played varsity last year and had some shining moments will have a lot bigger role for the team this year. Ben Nichols who was one of the top scorers on the team will even have a bigger role this year being one of the top guys offensively."
