Sandra Fahmy exemplifies a student who has taken advantage of the wide range of opportunities and extracurricular CV offers. She is the THON communications chair, Vice President of CV Africa, and a member of UNICEF and Key Club. She is an example to other students as one who finds deep passions and has the initiative to pursue them.

One of her passions is community service. She has been recognized as someone who can channel her leadership skills and social consciousness into helping others through THON.

“I think it’s really cool to see the direct impact I’m making on the Four Diamonds families and the personal relationships I've built with them overtime. It drives me even more because I feel more connected,” Fahmy said.

Along with leading a committee on THON, Fahmy is also a captain of TOPS, a soccer outreach program for players with mental or physical disabilities.

“I really value giving back to the community and social advocacy,” Fahmy said.

Fahmy is also an exceptional member of the CV community because, alongside participating in a plethora of extracurriculars, she also excels academically. She has been on the honor roll since freshman year, and is even a Questbridge (merit-based scholarship) national finalist.

What makes Fahmy’s accomplishments more impressive is that she had to make a difficult emmigration from Egypt to the U.S. in the fourth grade. Her family made the decision to flee due to the political revolution and religious persecution of Coptics in her home city, Cairo.

Fahmy acknowledges that it was difficult to transition to American culture as a 9-year-old who spoke no English, but she has overcome this cultural divide while still retaining a deep appreciation for her ethnic background.

Fahmy plans to attend college and intends to study chemistry. After college, she wants to attend medical school to study cancer research. Her work with THON has inspired this, as cancer research combines her passions for science and helping the community.
