Decked-out decision-day jeans for Villanova University
Cumberland Valley Seniors are encouraged to participate in “Decorate your Denim Day,” a new spin on Cumberland Valley’s traditional Decision Day. Seniors have been busy decorating their jeans to show off their college (or profession) of choice on Friday, May 5th.
Chapman Field will be open in the morning from 7:15-7:45 AM for the seniors to take photos as a class. Senior Class President Sidney Krebs said, “We wanted to do something ‘Instagrammable.’ In the past, seniors have just worn a t-shirt or boring college apparel for Decision Day. We thought it was time to add some pizzazz and let kids show their creativity.”
“After high school, students can still wear the jeans at college for football games and tailgates and stuff like that. They are just a really cool thing to have in your closet,” Krebs said.
Tips for decorating your jeans:
1. Buy fabric paint or a fabric medium to mix into the paint, using standard acrylic paint will cause the designs to crack when the fabric is bent or contorted.
2. Cover each design with a layer of Modge Podge; this ensures that the paint will be held in place and adds a shiny finish.
3. Start with a white coat of paint underneath each design. This creates a blank canvas and prevents colors from being hidden in the denim.
4. Create a color scheme and stick to it. The jeans should exude the personality of the college and colors are very important!
5. Don’t be afraid to mix it up and try jeans with rips, different colors, and different styles.
