Cumberland Valley’s Student Council is a student run organization that is in Homecoming, a majority of the spirit days, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, and the upcoming SnoCo winter semi-formal.

The Student Council officers meet to organize and run the events.

"We have meetings with the principals, officer meetings, committee meetings, general assembly meetings, and meetings with club officials,” Senior Student Council President Sammi Blocher said.

There are five committees inside of Student Council: Activities, Eagle Spirit, Operations, Public Relations, and Community Outreach. Blocher is the head of the Activities committee, which plans the school dances.

Planning the dances takes months of planning which involves voting on a theme for the dance, coordinating the event with the administrators of the school, and the logistics of obtaining the materials for the dance to setting up and tear down.

There are some struggles that can go along with preperation when the Student Council works with outside organizations.

“[For Homecoming] We were finally able to find a DJ and photobooth after 2 DJ’s unfortunately canceled on us,” Blocher said.

If the idea of joining Student Council is enticing, the application process starts in the Spring. Applicants will need teacher recommendations and grade levels will vote for their officers.
