Cumberland Valley Dance Team is a club full of dedicated dancers at the high school. Their season is nearly year-round, and they work very hard so they can put on spectacular performances at football games each week. They also perform at basketball games, soccer games, and competitions.

The team learns the competition dances in August and competes in the winter. They learn the dances for the football games about two weeks in advance and spend time at practices making sure it is ready to perform. They practice two times a week but a lot of the members dance and train outside of CVDT practice. Right now, the team is preparing for the homecoming pep rally and game next week.

“We have a hip-hop routine prepared for the homecoming pep rally and a dance with many styles for the football game,” Senior captain Alyssa Pechart said.

“My favorite part of CVDT is promoting and spreading school spirit, and performing at homecoming excites the school. It is cool to see their excitement when we dance,” Senior Kristy Lin said.

Dance team has made huge strides in the past few years and has won some major awards. At the NDA (National Dance Association) camp, the team won the most improved award and a top score, as well as a bid to the national championship.

“It was four days of intense dancing, usually more than twelve hours a day. We learned many routines and were evaluated on the last day. I am very proud of our awards at the camp because it was the team’s first time attending,” Pechart said.

“We are really proud of the awards we won and the superior rating we earned at camp” Lin said.

The girls on the team enjoy getting to know each other. Their season is long, but they create great relationships with one another.

“I love building friendships that will last a lifetime and spend time doing what I love to do!” Pechart said.

Dance Team helps out the community by organizing an annual summer camp and a hip-hop camp at Shaull. They also dance at festivals, such as the Stony Ridge Festival.

“We love to spread our dancing not only to the high school, but also our community,” Pechart said.
