Our Feature Teachers for October are Mrs. Ashlee Richards and Mr. Dan Stuckey

First we interviewed Math teacher Mrs.Richards who teaches a variety of math classes such as Pre-Calc, trigonometry ,HACC algebra and more in the high school.

If you were not a teacher, what job do you think that you would be doing and why?

“Well I originally started at Ship as an accounting major, so I did really enjoy numbers in the accounting world. But I didn'tdidnt actually know if I wanted to be an accountant though, but I can see myself doing some form of math different than teaching.”

What is your biggest teaching pet peeve?

“This one's changed throughout my career. My current pet peeve is the lack of wanting to pay attention and only wanting to look at that “device” on a regular basis. But just the lack of being interested in the topic is hard nowadays."

What made you decide that you wanted to become a teacher?

“Well I took economics at Ship and really did not like the world of business as a whole. That's what made me change, and I always like math because I come from a teaching family. My dad teaches, and so I actually called my high school math teacher and we had a conversation about whether teaching math would be a good thing for me. But I've always really enjoyed being able to explain math to my classmates in high school. It just seemed like a natural fit to switch over.”

Mr. Stuckey teaches Technnical Education in the high school.

If you weren'twerent a teacher what would you be?

“Self employed contractor because thats what I enjoy doing."

If you won the lottery what would you spend your money on and why?

“Land. It would be nice to have a lot of land.”

If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?

"I don't think I would live in just one spot, I would be nomadic. I'd just be… yeah completely nomadic.
