Justin Rulapaugh selling cookies for Man Pageant
In efforts to raise money for pediatric cancer, senior Justin Rulapaugh has been selected to be one of the ten contestants in the Mr. Mini-THON Man Pageant on February 20th.
“By going to such a large high school, I have seen several families affected by this awful disease,” Rulapaugh said. “When I see this happen, I think to myself that if I had to go through this, I would want a whole army of people behind me, backing me up, and supporting me through the hard times. Four Diamonds is that army, and this is how I enlist”.
Being a Man Pageant contestant holds the big responsibility of fundraising. Rulapaugh has made himself the goal of raising at least $7,201 by February 20th.
To begin fundraising to reach his goal, on January 31st, Rulapaugh took it upon himself to begin selling his mother’s homemade chocolate chip cookies to his fellow classmates.
“The fundraiser that has worked best for me has been selling chocolate chip cookies at school to people,” Rulapaugh said.
The first day Rulapaugh started selling the cookies he was able to sell all 220 of his cookies by 6th period, raising $110 in just one day.
“I sell my cookies 2 for $1. I think it works so well because at school everyone is hungry, and almost everyone has a dollar on them,” Rulapaugh said. “It’s easy for my Mom and I to make, and people just cannot resist the legendary cookies”.
Along with selling chocolate chip cookies, Rulapaugh has set an incentive for himself to increase the amount of money he can raise with cookie sales.
“If I raise at least $1000 just on cookie sales, I will be shaving my hair into a mullet with the letters ‘FTK’ on the sides the day before Man Pageant,” Rulapuagh said.
Aside from the fundraising, Rulapaugh and the 9 other boys attend practices twice a week to make the show the best it can possibly be.
“My favorite part of the Man Pageant practices are the dance practices,” Rulapuagh said. “During the dance, it gives us all time to bond with each other and it’s a lot of fun learning all these sick dance moves."
As the night of Man Pageant comes closer and closer each day, Rulapaugh looks forward to doing one thing at the show.
“I am most excited about putting a smile on people's faces during the show. I feel like it will be a great night for everyone and I am so excited to see all of our hard work play out,” Rulapaugh said.
On February 20th at 6th, Rulapaugh and the nine other Man Pageant boys will put on a show.
