Sophomore English teacher Mr. Labra is new to the district this 2021-2022 school year. I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Labra about his first year of teaching.

Mr. Labra is from Pittsburgh and attended Messiah University. Growing up, he hated school, especially English. But, in 11th grade his English teacher had a great impact on him and made him realize he had a passion for English and wanted to follow in his teacher's footsteps.

Fortunately, Mr. Labra is liking CV and feels he is receiving tons of support from other teachers and the administration.

“Everyone really makes you feel at home and welcome,” Labra said.

With this being his first year teaching, Labra is finding ways to adjust.

“The COVID stuff is really all I’ve ever known in terms of teaching. During student teaching, I had to use Zoom for half of the day so it’s honestly probably a bit easier this year. There have definitely been moments where I’ve felt overwhelmed or in over my head, but for the most part I’m kind of just chilling,” Labra said.

Mr. Labra also enjoys teaching the Sophomores and finds ways to make class fun during lessons.

“Yeah I do really like all of my kids so far, which I think basically every teacher says but I genuinely do. That being said, they can be a bit rambunctious and loud but at the end of the day I think that we all have fun in every class and also learn how to be better students of literature,” Labra said.

CV Eye welcomes Mr. Labra to CVHS.

Although Mr. Labra’s first year teaching is built around Covid 19, he is adapting well with the welcoming arms of the staff and his students, and is looking forward to the coming years at CV.
