The Quiz Bowl at CV is a competition that is perfect for students that love all things trivia. Overseen by Chemistry teacher Anthony Thoman, students that are a part of the Quiz Bowl get together every Thursday to practice their trivia skills to prepare for their competition.
On January 27, the students will compete against other schools for the final prize of the winning school’s name etched onto a plaque.
Senior Jason Gordon, the captain of the Quiz Bowl, leads the meetings and ensures that the team studies effectively for the upcoming competition.
“Each practice is pretty much the same so I have a book of questions and answers for trivia and we all take turns reading them so the team can answer them,” Gordon said.
One of the contestants, junior Mark Chambers, returns for his second year of the Quiz Bowl excited to compete again.
“The Quiz Bowl makes you feel good, to answer questions that you actually know; it’s a confidence booster,” Chambers said. “It’s fun for everybody because it provides a totally equal playing ground and it’s also just a really great thing to do with your friends.”
As for sophomore Prithvi Sudhakar, this is his first time participating in the Quiz Bowl. “I have a lot of knowledge, but I hope to continue to build upon that through this competition,” Sudhakar said.
The team is also preparing for their Brainbusters competition that is aired on NBC January 18. This competition is also on trivia and winners can receive up to $5,000.
“Anybody that loves useless knowledge or has a strength in one area would be great at this,” Mr. Thoman said. “If you love trivia, come join the CV Quiz Bowl!”
