Cumberland Valley hosted the PIAA State Championships for Field Hockey, Volleyball, and Boy’s and Girl’s Soccer the weekend of November 18, 2022. The Athletic Department started this journey by creating an Request For Proposal (RFP) that outlined what the benefits and costs would be for holding the events at the high school campus. Cumberland Valley was then picked amongst a handful of other sites by the PIAA. This agreement has set CV to be the host for at least another three years.

Cumberland Valley proudly opened our doors to outside visitors.

“We enjoy hosting big events. We enjoy having teams come in, seeing our facilities. It’s not only great for the athletic department, it’s great for Cumberland Valley School District,” said assistant athletic director Darnell Stanford. Cumberland Valley was able to display all of the excellent facilities that have been upgraded and renovated at the high school campus.

The entire community was able to benefit and participate in the crowds that the state events brought. With the distance that many teams and fans had to travel, some were able to experience some of the great things Cumberland County has to offer.

Stanford said, “We had a lot of people coming here. With nineteen games, double that was the number of teams. They get gas at our gas stations, they visit our restaurants and different things like that. So really for our community it adds a whole bunch of people in here who spend extra money to help Cumberland County grow.”

The state events were beneficial to the growth of Cumberland Valley School District, Cumberland County, and its surrounding areas. Cumberland Valley looks forward to hosting the Fall state championships in the next three years.
