Cumberland Valley is hosting this year’s musical Beauty and the Beast.

Hundreds of people each year come out to support Cumberland Valley students as they put their hard work and talent on display at the annual Spring musical. This year’s musical is Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Tickets went on sale just last week, and they are going fast. Performances are Thursday and Friday, April 28 with a 7:00 pm curtain, then finish up with two shows on the weekend, one on Saturday and the final show on Sunday. Weekend shows begin at 2:00 pm.

Junior Julianne Canete stars as Belle and discussed her process.

“To fully immerse myself into the role of Belle, I initially started by memorizing the songs she has to sing in the musical and then memorized her lines," Canete said. "What I’ve learned from Belle is that she is a complex character. She is adventurous, very headstrong, and independent, but also has to navigate a world in which she cannot rely on the comforts of the village, and her father and I had to portray that.”

The musical, being as popular as it is, adds great pressure to the students involved in it. Canete, being a lead, has that extra added layer of pressure. She knows that with such a big role comes great responsibility. She had to take the time to understand Belle in and out before she even considered auditioning for the role.

As opening night approaches, the cast is excited to exhibit what they have been working so hard to put on. “I am most looking forward to performing in ‘Be Our Guest’,” Canete expresses.
