Hungry? Thirsty? The next time you are signed into the IMC, you can squash those hunger and thirst pains by visiting the newly named Eagles’ Nest Café! While not new, the café does have a new name and a new permanent home in the back of the IMC.

Not all of the Eagles' Nest staff is pictured. Left to Right:  Nick Urich, Jimmy Povilaitis, Shriya Acharya, Aubree Canonizado, Shenelle Price, Linda Kunzweiler, Brianna Foulkrod, Wyatt Corbin, Julianna Amieva, MaryAnn Hartley.  (not pictured, Riley Collins).

The café originally started in the Fall of 2015 as the Eagles’ Nest Kiosk. It was the idea from the High School Special Education Supervisor at the time, Mrs. Rauenzahn, to allow students from the Life Skills and MDS programs to use a mobile cart (kiosk) that was donated to the high school from a food company, to sell food and beverages to fellow students who had late arriving senior privileges since the cafeteria was closed when they arrived to school. It was located in the PAC lobby as an extension of the high school cafeteria.

The high school student customers at the time loved this satellite cafeteria idea so much, that over the next two years, the sales sky-rocketed to several hundred dollars daily while the kiosk was open and the student employees were serving over 300 customers per morning due to the addition of allowing students in study halls to also patronize the kiosk.

Due to its overwhelming popularity, we had to cease operating the kiosk as it was designed as a learning experience for the student employees and the pressure to serve that many customers in such a small time period was too great. Our CVHS librarian, Mrs. Boehne-Meile came to our rescue and offered us a location in the IMC for the student employees to practice their vocational skills in a more controlled environment.

Mrs. Boehne-Meile recently offered us an even better location in the IMC so that we can offer counter service from a realistic café type setting. Since we no longer have to operate from the mobile kiosk, we’ve changed from the name “kiosk” and re-branded as the Eagles’ Nest Café!
We’d love the opportunity to serve you hot and cold food and beverages at the café. If you are a student who is signed into the IMC, please visit us during periods 2, 3, and 4 in the morning and during periods 7, 8, and 9 in the afternoon. Staff are encouraged to visit us as well.

Customers must have money in their cafeteria account in order to make a purchase. We do not accept cash or credit.
While you get to enjoy great food and beverage choices, our student employees have the opportunity to practice many real life vocational skills, including safe food handling, technology, social and communication skills, along with other soft vocational skills when they work at the café. Your business allows our student employees to practice these skills as they prepare for the world of work after they graduate.

The café is a multi-department operation. Thank you to Mrs. Sheaffer, CVHS Food Services Manager, Mr. Harlacher, Food Services Director, Mrs. Boehne-Meile, CVHS librarian, our job coaches, Mrs. Kunzweiler and Mrs. Hartley, Mr. Flickinger, CVHS Special Education Supervisor, the Special Education Department teachers and support staff, and most importantly, the student workers in our Life Skills, MDS, and VB programming who are the true stars of this operation.

We’re looking forward to serving you soon!
