The first serve of the CV Girls Volleyball season was in the Dome on Saturday, September 2 against Hazleton Area High School. New head coach Loratta Ranck had the team ready to start a fresh season after off- season preparation.

“Our goal is to claim the Mid Penn Commonwealth title. We want to win Districts and then make it far in States,” Senior Aviana Chilmaza said.

Rather than take a step back from last year's campaign the Eagles are looking to make a strong return following up last year's record of 9-4. Rank’s first year coaching the  team shouldn’t come as a surprise. Experienced as an assistant on the Boys Volleyblal staff as well as on club teams in the area, she jumped on the opportunity to coach the girls program.

“In our offseason we had open gyms and lifting sessions throughout the week. We also had a team camp at JMU, which included team bonding and learning from division one college players and coaches,” Chilmaza said.

Through a preseason filled with training and camps, the Eagles are a bonded team with real chemistry. The team practiced nearly all throughout the summer while weightlifting to help strengthen the ladies and get them prepared for the season. The Eagles attended team camp at James Madison University where they were able to practice against tough competition.

Losing senior leaders shouldn’t be much of a problem this year for the Eagles. They have 7 new seniors coming in to help lead them deep into the playoffs. Keep an eye out for the Girls Volleyball team this year, don't be surprised if we are watching them play into late October even early November.
