Cumberland Valley’s JROTC hosted their annual Veterans Day event at Applebees where they opened doors and talked with veterans about their experiences serving.

This was an opportunity to get volunteering hours towards their Service-Learning projects, which gets the cadets involved in numerous events in high school events and in the community.

Senior Cadet Command Sergeant Major Jessica Maher described the event saying, “We greet them and open the door for them. Then as they’re sitting down to eat we go around and have conversations with them, thank them for their service.”

Maher said that the veterans are “very inspiring to talk to. They provide advice and wisdom you can’t get anywhere else."

Maher says this event means “a great deal” to her, and she has done it twice so far. Maher calls veterans “heroes of mine…” and that they are, “a big part of our country.”

Cumberland Valley and Applebee’s partner every Veterans Day to host this event so, check them out next year and, the upcoming Harrisburg Holiday Event on November 23.
