Heat 717 is a small and growing business run by three Cumberland Valley students: seniors Max Astrachan and Abdullah Amir and sophomore Sid Astrachan. They have been in business about a year, but about five months ago they created an Instagram and suddenly the small business began to get some hype.

Heat 717 sells or trades trending items such as shoes, shirts, sweatshirts, stickers, and other limited addition or rare pieces.

“Most of our inventory comes from this app called Stockx, and Abdullah is really good at finding people to get inventory from as well,” Sid Astrachan said.

If someone local purchases from them they will meet up to exchange, and if they live further away then will ship the items. Heat accepts cash payments along with PayPal, Zelle, and Cashapp. The annual income the company makes is kept confidential, but the profit margins vary.

“Depending on the item we could be making anywhere from $1200 on a pair of shoes to $50 on a pair of shoes,” Astrachan said.

They promote themselves through Instagram by having people shout them out for a chance to win certain items. They also have raffles that work a similar way. This gives clients an incentive to promote the company and increases the pool of new clients. Over the past five months the business has built a wide variety of clientele.

“We have sold to students from local schools, and we also have sold to top athletes like Bryan Bresee, he is the number one football recruit in the country right now. He’s a senior at a high school in Maryland and is going to play football at Clemson," Sid Astrachan said. "We also sold to a high school senior, DJ Uiagalelei; he will be the QB at Clemson in 2 years. Also we sold to Jordan Hill, who won a Super Bowl on the Seattle Seahawks.”
