On March 8, 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the previous Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell all regarding their time at the palace.

The world was shocked to hear the never before heard drama surrounding Harry, Meghan, and other members of the royal family, and many viewers likened the event to interviews with the late Princess Diana. Specifically, the portion of the interview with Markle alone shared a striking resemblance to the interviews with Princess Diana, as both enlightened the world to the lack of acceptance and kindness which each woman felt within the palace.

Following Markle’s alone portion of the interview, which lasted approximately an hour of the two hour segment, her husband Prince Harry joined to share additional details regarding their treatment and reasons for leaving.

With regard to the first half of the interview, I personally believe that this portion was more sensational and less informative than it could have been. Winfrey, who hosted the interview, had every opportunity to ask Meghan thought-provoking and insightful questions, and for one reason or another she fell short of this chance to sit down with a royal.

Many times throughout the first hour, it appeared as though Winfrey was acting overly dramatic or exaggerated in response to Markle’s statements, as if Markle had shared intense information when in reality this was rarely the case. However, in the moments when Winfrey did ask thoughtful questions, Markle lacked insightful answers, commonly out of respect for the reputation of other family members.

Overall, I believe that Markle should have been more prepared to answer the deep or personal questions, as that is what she signed up for, and she simply did not answer the questions which the audience needed answers to.

Following a short break, Meghan Markle’s husband Prince Harry joined the interview, and it was at this point which the interview became more interesting. Unlike his wife, Prince Harry was willing and prepared to answer all of Winfrey’s questions with detail, insight, and drama to say the least.

Due to Harry’s longer association with the royal family,he offered more stories to the interview that truly made the tell all worthwhile. Not only did Prince Harry discuss his present situation away from the royals and his wife, he also spoke fondly of his mother and grandmother which added touching sentiments to the otherwise exploitive interview.

In total, I do believe that the tell all was worth the overall watch, as long as you made it through the first over dramatized portion to make it to the heart of the interview. If individuals are wanting to catch the interview post-airing, it is available on on-demand.
