The recently released film, Five Nights at Freddy’s, is an adaptation of the game series of the same name developed by Scott Cawthon. It follows a security guard, Mike (Josh Hutcherson), and his sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), who watch over the abandoned pizzeria in the familiar game style format. Inside of the pizzeria, there are animatronics possessed by dead children who try to capture and kill Abby in order to make her an animatronic. This whole operation was ran by the owner of the pizzeria, William Afton (Mathew Lillard).

This film is well done and feeds off of nostalgia. Similar to the game, the setting is dark and eerie. The thrilling atmosphere sets up the jumpscares, which are what the franchise is mainly known for. The writing and overall dialogue is well done, focusing mainly on the internal thoughts of Mike as he pursues through 5 nights of terror. The acting is solid too, and Piper Rubio stood out as Abby, a curious and adventurous little girl in a not so safe environment.

The purpose of this adaptation is to offer long time fans of FNAF, a movie in which they can tie their playing experiences back to. Many parts of the “FNAF Lore”, or the storyline of the games, have been included into the movie as well. It is exciting to see parts of your childhood come back to you, especially in the form of a movie.

I would give Five Nights at Freddy’s a 7.5/10. I highly recommend this movie to those that have played Five Nights at Freddy’s previously, as it truly reminds one of their childhood.
