A teacher who is a coach as well gets the opportunity to see his or her students in two different environments and the different personalities they may have outside of the classroom. For these coaches/teachers there is bigger meaning behind coaching.

“Wrestling is the one sport that has taught me the most in life. I want student-athletes to receive the same benefits from the sport of wrestling as I have,” Mr heckard said.

Coaches want their players to take away life lessons from the game and not just the game itself. Being a teacher and a coach takes a lot of time management, but there are advantages to it.

“The biggest benefit of coaching and being a teacher is understanding how to work with young adults. This is what we do and what we know best," Heckard said.

"Another benefit is that my work schedule is conducive in allowing me to attend practices and competitions on a regular basis without any conflict.”

Being a coach at the school where they teach makes it convenient because with their work schedule allows them to be able to attend practice and games.

By having basically two jobs the teachers do not have a lot of free time on their hands.

“Yes, both are jobs that require a lot of additional time outside of official school hours. It doesn’t leave much time for anything else,” Mr Hockenberry said.

Between the advantages and the disadvantages the advantages definitely make up for it.
