The Girls Tennis Team started with a record of 4-1. The varsity team is full of new players, but one new face, Freshman Riya Srinivas, has passed all the returning players and is ranked number one and will be a weapon for Mid Penns and Districts.
Srinivas has a long tennis history. “I started playing tennis when I was 7 years old. Something that helped me to get where I am now is playing tennis tournaments and training almost everyday,” she said.
Srinivas’s commitment to tennis extends into weekends and off days, so she needs the support of those around her.
“My mom always pushes me to become better and she has definitely helped me to get where I am now,” Srinivas said.
Clearly, her mother has helped her create such a good work ethic towards tennis, which has won her a spot on varsity.
The team's hardest challenge was playing State College. They dropped the match 5-0. Their next challenge is Hershey and the team hopes to jump back.
“State College was really tough and the matches we had before did not help us prepare. The team has really been working hard and I’ve been participating in the Junior Team Tennis League during the weekends. I hope this helps us to do better against Hershey and throughout the season,” Srinivas said.
Although she may only be a freshman and brand new to the team, she is a weapon on the team, and one to look out for.
