CV Broadcasting pioneers, Juniors Curtis Shinn and Siddh Patel

On February 6, 2024 history was made. Curtis Shinn and Siddh Patel commentated Cumberland Valley’s first ever student-led broadcast against the Red Lion Lions. They both dreamed of this moment for years while watching professional sports being broadcasted on television. The pair was very excited and well prepared for this opportunity.

The lead play by play man was  Shinn. His job was to explain the game as it was happening as well as introduce the players before the tip.

Shinn always dreamed of being a commentator and said, “I wanted to start broadcasting because it involves two things that I love to do which is watch sports and talk about sports.” He played basketball for most of his life, so that helped him with the analysis of the game.

Shinn felt confident during the broadcast because he knew they have a good understanding of the game. They had a good flow because they are friends outside of broadcasting. Shinn hopes to broadcast another playoff basketball game and try hockey and football next year.

The color commentator was Siddh Patel. His job was to talk about the players that would have a big impact on the game and the stats for the teams, players, and coaches. Patel always wanted to be like the commentators he saw on TV.

“He thought their jobs were fun and interesting because they were watching the sports that they loved ," Shinn said.

The CV Eye students felt confident before the game after Mr. Mumma and Mr. Danecker helped them prepare. Shinn later felt proud of what they accomplished during the game.

Both Patel and Shinn plan to broadcast games to live audiences next school year.
