Cumberland Valley Mini-THON is hosting the annual event on Friday, March 11th to continue the fight against pediatric cancer. The event begins with a pep rally during the school day to involve all teachers, staff, and students. After the school day is over, students registered for Mini-THON will stay until 10 o’clock that night.

Mini-THON Chairs, Overalls, and Supervisors have devoted countless hours of their time to arrange this special event.

A notable tradition of Cumberland Valley Mini-THON is inviting families to come and speak on their experiences with pediatric cancer. This year, the King family is attending the event to speak about their son, Jesse King, a former Cumberland Valley student. Additionally, the Rodriguez family is virtually taking part in the event to raise awareness for their son’s illness.

Family Relations Chair Riley Ritter is responsible for hosting the families. “I prepare the family room with decorations, stock it with food, make sure the shirts for the families are ordered, and figure out entertainment for the families so they enjoy their time here at CV.”

Mini-THON leadership and committee members have been going to elementary schools for their own Mini-THONs leading up to the final event. Mini-THONs involve students in elementary schools across the district to raise money for the high school’s total. High school students play games, dance, and craft with the elementary students to introduce them to Mini-THON.

Outreach Chair Anna Post said, “My biggest role is putting together the eight elementary school Mini-THONs which introduce kids to Four Diamonds and let them contribute to our goal.”

Mini-THON Overalls are the leaders. They supervise the committees, organize, and run all events and fundraisers throughout the year.

Overall Imani Chanka said, “This week we’re getting ready for the Man Pageant and finishing up our elementary school Mini-Thons. Next week, the week of Mini-THON, will be a lot of talking with different chairs and getting everything finalized. We have a big shopping trip to buy food and decorations and just a lot of excitement about the upcoming event.”
