Crew members priming set pieces on stage to be built.

As the CV school musical approaches, the stage crew, led by Ms. Futato,  build the set and props for the theatre production of Beauty and the Beast. They are using the blueprints from the broadway production.

The crew usually starts production in December. The adult volunteers built most of the set, while the students prime and pain set pieces, build props, and work the spotlight.

During tech week and the performances, crew members move the set pieces throughout the show backstage and on stage. Some students are assigned to do more designed or detailed paintings.

“Usually it’ll be a more detailed painting, but it can also be like just overall one color painting,” Sophomore and crew member Lex said.

Amog the student crew members, there are stage managers that guide the crew with production as well as directing the crew during performances. Unlike the cream they have to go to musica; rehearsals as well as the crew meetings.

“It’s a lot of responsibility and work. It gets really tiring sometimes, but it’s so fun getting to work with both cast and crew and seeing a lot more behind the scenes,” Junior and Stage Manager Christia Bunker said.

Stage Crew also assists in production for the fall plays. It is a club anyone can join either for the play or the musical.

“People should join because it’s just a cool experience to have; working backstage, you get to be a part of all the theatrics,” Sophomore and Stage Manager Makeea Milbrand said. “You get some of that experience that you might not get in some other places.”
